Day 3 finalized

More climbs, more climbs, more climbs and...

Steered clear of the illegal immigrants crossing through the desert - was forewarned by some folks at the border control. Pedaled as quickly as possible. But before we left, Flat Stanley wanted to be seen in front of the Border Patrol Station sign.

Also met a gentleman from Michigan, Wendell Proudfoot, who is also riding the same route to Florida. Only difference, he's riding his recumbent bicycle and has his wife following him in their van! We compared notes and they indicated they saw me over the past few days passing them in the rain.

Did get to see some wonderful vistas and I even threw myself in front of a camera with the vista in the background.
Props to my Delaware alumni!
Vista love
Scruff starting
Amazing vista
Looking back down the mountain
Found my way from Pine Valley to Boulevard, CA, just a stone's throw from the Golden Acorn (lame name) Native American casino. 38 degrees all of a sudden and everything I owned was sweaty, stinky and was making me freeze! I wimped out...ended up at a hotel. Really awful...Cat wizz is not good deodorizer.

More tomorrow.

  2. So, that's what the desert is like! 38 degrees, brrr. Hope the stinky hotel at least had a hot shower! Happy trails. Love, Mom & Dad

  3. Hi Tim,
I finally found your blog! I can't tell if you've finished the ride, or are still enjoying it. You've certainly taken lots of photos.

Here's one of the few photos of my trip: https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-D4_WqkW-Cvw/TQa-g570n-I/AAAAAAAAERU/nVsdWk3w-bA/s640/DSCN2524.JPG. We arrived in St. Augustine on Dec 13 last year.

Since then, I've ridden from Hell to Paradise, a much shorter trip(both Michigan communities).

    Have fun!

  4. Wendell,

It is just fantastic to see your correspondence today. I really appreciate your missive.

Unfortunately, I was unable to continue my trip beyond Del Rio, TX due to injuries to my spine (from a lifetime of abuse and injuries). I have been doing physical therapy for more than 6 months and have recently had 3 consecutive days of virtually pain free living!

I hope someday to finish the ride. I anticipate my ride will be done, like yours, with a recumbent bicycle to alleviate potential spinal stress.

Again, thank you for contacting me, and I'm glad to see you're still riding, even if it is between Heaven and Hades!

    Tim
